Most of the time an assignment is for 13 weeks, or 3 months. This is far and away the most common. Once in awhile a facility will have a short term need and put up a travel nursing job for 4 weeks and sometimes other terms but almost all of what you will see advertised are for 13 weeks.
Once that 13 weeks is up, though, if everyone is happy you may well get offered an extension. If they really want you the travel nursing agency you are working will likely offer you a bonus to “re-up.”
Always ask.

There is a new nursing academy in Hawaii which is sort of joint venture between the University of Hawaii and the Veterans Administration. This doesn’t have a lot to do with travel nursing at the moment but may be of interest to some of you LPNs who want to become RNs so you can get a travel nursing job. You can read more about it here.

I recently discovered a neat little Internet service that let’s download a digital photo from your computer and then they will turn it into a physical postcard, let you address it and write a short message on it and then create it, stamp it and mail it for you.
This is great fun when you are out on a travel nursing job away from home.

Travel nursing is one of the most exciting going on in the nursing jobs community. In this blog we are going to keep you up to date on what is going on, answer questions we receive regarding travel nursing jobs and occasionally throw up a personal experience of an actual traveler.
I’m here to give you the real scoop on travel nursing and not to sugar coat it. Everything about travel nursing, (and nursingĀ itself for that matter), is not peaches and cream. I want to help you make an informed decision on whether or not this the thing for you.
If you have a question, leave me a comment and I will do my best to answer it. I don’t know everything about travel nursing but I bet you I know someone who does, so ask away.
